Promise Mascot Agency Look Outside Alan Wake 2

steam
Let me preface this review by admitting that I am 100% biased towards Kaizen Game Works, seeing as they also produced my most favourite game ever: Paradise Killer, and also had an artist work on another one of my favourite games: Sorry We're Closed!
So, I went into this game expecting to love it. And after only a few hours in game, I can confidently say that this game will absolutely be in my top 3 of the year! Perhaps even my GOTY if I'm honest...
For many reasons! But let's start with... The characters! Of course, they're always a huge part of any game, but they're especially important in Promise Mascot Agency since they're like... The main crux of the gameplay. You'll be collecting and interacting with a whole host of colorful characters! And I love each and every one of them so so much, like they were all perfectly engineered to be enjoyed. Mascots and human NPC's alike! Though, my favourite mascot has gotta be Kaki-Gory!!! I just find his design and personality to be the absolute cutest in the game!
Once again, the OST in this game is phenomenal— just as it is in Paraidse Killer too! Kaizen Game Works are just the absolute best at making video game music in my opinion. I'm still regularly listening to the OST even after completing the game!
Regarding the game, it operates rather similar to their previous Paradise Killer title. In that a huge chunk of the game relies on a massive collect-a-thon, which i just adore! There are so many thing to 100% complete alongside finishing the main story, as well as some fun and hidden achievements to strive for! The driving around in a 3D space feels so nice, and it's so much fun when you finally start to upgrade your vehicle! I very much enjoyed exploring the downright beautiful landscape, and the artistry behind the scenery is something I hold in high regard.
Every single detail, from the world, to the menus, to the honestly very funny and witty dialogue, to the OST, to the mini games, to the collection hunts, to every inch, nook, and cranny of this game feels so expertly placed and lovingly expressed. I am in love with every inch of this game, seeing as I have 100% completely every in game collection and steam achievements LOL...
Please, please, please pick this game up and support a small independant studio. It's so much fun I promise! It was made with so much love, and Kaizen Game Works have somehow managed to capture lighting in a bottle for me not once, not twice, but thrice! They're something so special to me, and I cannot recommend them and this game enough. It's rather quick, even to 100%, but in exchange for your time... You'll experience one of the most lovingly prepared and thoroughly enjoyable games ever!

steam
I came across this game by accident one day as I was scrolling through steam, simply looking for any new games to purchase to fill my time... And oh, I'm so glad I found this little gem before most apparently did!
I seem to have a knack for finding these little rpg maker horror titles before the majority on youtube do, which really only means that I'm left to traverse the game world with literally zero help or understanding LOL... The same thing hapened with Fear and Hunger 2: Termina, but the unique experience is honestly a lot of fun.
Being left alone with next to no help regarding how to progress except for one steam guide that included some puzzle information, I struggled during some parts of this game. Not that I think it's particularly difficult, I just think I'm a little stupid sometimes. That, and this title comes with the classic jank you can except an RPG maker horror game to include! Such as funny hitboxes, weird audio at times, and characters not acting as they otherwise should. Which isn't inherently a negative in my opinion! It all adds to the charm of the game at the end of the day!
However, I wasn't able to finish this game by myself in the end anyway. Instead, I watched my partner play it all! From begining to end. Because by the time my partner picked it up, a few more help guides had surfaced and answered questions I previously had, but yeah... I couldn't finish this game by myself!
Still, what a fun little experience! It was pitched as a survival horror, and it definitely is that... But it's less serious than you might expect. As in it doesn't take itself too seriously, like the creator put having their own fun first and foremost, which was really cool to experience! I personally enjoyed the tone of the game A LOT, but my partner said that they wish it wasn't such a meme at times. To each their own!
It's also a lot more forgiving than most survival horror games I've played, so I'd recommend it if those kind fo games sorta scare you! The horror elements align more with body horror and lovecraftian, especially near the endings. Oh, yeah, there are multiple endings! And lots of branching paths regarding party members you can recruit, so I think this game as looooads of replayability!
Music was stellar as always, and the character designs are so gritty and oftentimes disgusting— which feels like was the point, y'know? So I'm saying this as a compliment! Awful, terrible, body horror designs. They worked so well within the setting of the game, and the pixel art style!
And the story is pretty good too, honestly. A really nice concept— (Don't) Look Outside!
I'd recommend this title if you're looking for a silly, relatively quick, lovecraftian little horror game! I can't fault it much, other than some jank, and sometimes it's a little too confusing in both objective and map layout. Some of the quirks can get a little annoying at times too, but it still remains charming in its faults! I'm really happy to have experiencd this game, and you might be too!

epic games store
After completing the previous titles included in the "Remedyverse" (Max Payne 1 and 2, Alan Wake, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Quantum Break, and finally, Control.), it was finally to play perhaps one of the best games I have ever been given the opportunity to play. I am now a Sam Lake stan, mostly thanks to this game.
First, to point out the obvious: that musical section with Alan Wake?!?! Best experience of my life honestly! I mean the whole game manages to balance to absurdity and the seriousness of Alan wake—and the Remedyverse at large—so perfectly. A tight act that is executed expertly in Alan Wake 2, but the brief respite that the musical provides is so so welcomed, and reminds me of why I love these games...
They're so weird, and so self aware! They're so fun to play through.
The absurdism is very much at the forefront of Alan Wake 2, as has been seen through every previous title too. But it feels so much more planned and thought out in Alan Wake 2, some loose ends are tied which is satisfying in itself, and more threads are opened. Alluding to a third entry in the series!
And God, the art direction of this game? Absolute CINEMA if you ask me. Stunning visuals, gorgeous views. Walking around the game areas was such a treat itself, and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the small details and call backs to previous games seen throughout the scenery!
The music too, of course, is sublime. Such a fitting OST— I still find myself coming back and listening to Yoton Yo especially! Ahti is by far my most favourite character in the series, I must admit...
Overall, the game feels like a love letter. To the series itself, to the fans, to those who have worked on the Remedyverse. It feels like an open ended question and an answer all at once. It was one of the most intruiguing, funny, upsetting, scary, absurd, and loving experiences of my gaming life. I cannot recommend it enough— Just be sure to play the previous entries in the Remedyverse otherwise it wont make much sense!
