Book Title Reasoning
Earthlings - Sayaka Murata Probably my most favorite book ever! It deals with growing up as a woman, more specifically in Japanese society but there are ripples of consequences for every woman, and the deep alienation from society, through absurdist and dark means. Cannot recommend this title enough, and by extension, every Sayaka Murata novel in existence. She's my FAV!
I'm Thinking of Ending Things - Iain Reid I haven't watched the movie so I can't compare it to that, but the book was so perfect to me... Genuinely no complaints! The pacing was so satisfying, nice and slow without feeling like a slog, and then ramping up to 100% at the end, perfectly tied to the narrative, and such a tense ride! It's not a scary horror, but it is a neat little psychological horror, and it fucked me up for a week.
The War On Women - Sue Lloyd-Roberts Whilst this book is a bit outdated by now, it's the novel that got me back into reading many years ago! Feminist non fiction, it deals with the lives of various women, both adult and children, and the difficulties they face all around the world. Very eye opening and depressing, but written so expertly that I couldn't put it down despite the dark contents.
