Look Outside

I came across this game by accident one day as I was scrolling through steam, simply looking for any new games to purchase to fill my time... And oh, I'm so glad I found this little gem before most apparently did!

I seem to have a knack for finding these little rpg maker horror titles before the majority on youtube do, which really only means that I'm left to traverse the game world with literally zero help or understanding LOL... The same thing hapened with Fear and Hunger 2: Termina, but the unique experience is honestly a lot of fun.

Being left alone with next to no help regarding how to progress except for one steam guide that included some puzzle information, I struggled during some parts of this game. Not that I think it's particularly difficult, I just think I'm a little stupid sometimes. That, and this title comes with the classic jank you can except an RPG maker horror game to include! Such as funny hitboxes, weird audio at times, and characters not acting as they otherwise should. Which isn't inherently a negative in my opinion! It all adds to the charm of the game at the end of the day!

However, I wasn't able to finish this game by myself in the end anyway. Instead, I watched my partner play it all! From begining to end. Because by the time my partner picked it up, a few more help guides had surfaced and answered questions I previously had, but yeah... I couldn't finish this game by myself!

Still, what a fun little experience! It was pitched as a survival horror, and it definitely is that... But it's less serious than you might expect. As in it doesn't take itself too seriously, like the creator put having their own fun first and foremost, which was really cool to experience! I personally enjoyed the tone of the game A LOT, but my partner said that they wish it wasn't such a meme at times. To each their own!

It's also a lot more forgiving than most survival horror games I've played, so I'd recommend it if those kind fo games sorta scare you! The horror elements align more with body horror and lovecraftian, especially near the endings. Oh, yeah, there are multiple endings! And lots of branching paths regarding party members you can recruit, so I think this game as looooads of replayability!

Music was stellar as always, and the character designs are so gritty and oftentimes disgusting— which feels like was the point, y'know? So I'm saying this as a compliment! Awful, terrible, body horror designs. They worked so well within the setting of the game, and the pixel art style!

And the story is pretty good too, honestly. A really nice concept— (Don't) Look Outside!

I'd recommend this title if you're looking for a silly, relatively quick, lovecraftian little horror game! I can't fault it much, other than some jank, and sometimes it's a little too confusing in both objective and map layout. Some of the quirks can get a little annoying at times too, but it still remains charming in its faults! I'm really happy to have experiencd this game, and you might be too!
